Obverse: the coin depicts an adult panda with her cub. The bottom of the coin is engraved with the technical specifications of the coin "1/10 OZ Au. 999', with the denomination '50元' to the left of the coin.
Reverse: the reverse shows the Temple of Paradise in Beijing and above it, on the edge of the coin, the inscription '中华人民共和国' (People's Republic of China).
About the coin: the coin is minted in pure .999 gold. The Chinese Gold Panda was first minted in 1983 and had a limited mintage of only 10 000 pieces per year for the first three years of mintage. Each year this coin changes its design, only in 2002 the design remain unchanged and was used in 2001. This coin is struck at three mints in China, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Shenyang. However, unlike the practice of mints in other countries, these coins do not bear mintmarks. Instead, the different mints make minor design differences between their minted coins, such as the size of the font, the size of the bamboo forest and the minimal differences in the design of the Temple of Paradise.
