Obverse: the Sower is depicted in the center of the obverse. The coin is surmounted by the name of the country of origin 'REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' (French Republic) and the surname of the author 'O. Roty'.
Reverse: the reverse of the coin shows three intertwined symbolic plants: wheat, olives, and oak. The denomination '5 FRANCS' is embossed above these plants and the year of issue '1960' is inscribed below. The motto 'LIBERTE-EGALITE-FRATERNITE' is also embossed on the coin.
