Obverse: the obverse of the coin features a symbol of the Mexican coat of arms - an eagle squatting on a cactus and cheering on a snake. The inscription "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS" (eng. Unated states of Mexico) is engraved in a semicircle on the top and the year of mintage is on the right.
Reverse: the reverse of the coin shows the Aztec calendar "Piedra del Sol" (eng. Stone of the Sun) with the inscription "VEINTE PESOS" (Eng. 20 pesos) and the amount of pure gold in the coin "* 15 Gr. ORO PURO *".
Edge: minted words "INDEPENDENCIA Y LIBERTAD".
