Obverse: The obverse of the coin features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The words "ELIZABETH II" and the name of the country "NEW ZEALAND" are engraved on the obverse of the coin, and the year of minting "2007" on the bottom of the coin.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin depicts Scott Base, a New Zealand Antarctic research station located in Antarctica. At the bottom, the logo of the organization "International Polar Year", separated by the years "2007" and "2008". The denomination is engraved on the side of the coin. The words and year "INTERNATIONAL POLAR YEAR SCOTT-BASE 1957-2007" are engraved on the top of the coin in a semicircle.
About the coin: The coin commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Scott Base in Antarctica.
