Obverse: The obverse of the coin features a right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, created by artist Susanna Blunt and engraver Susan Taylor. The Queen is depicted at the age of 77, without a crown, wearing earrings and a necklace. At the top is the inscription ELIZABETH II, and at the bottom – the denomination 8 DOLLARS.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin shows three maple leaves of different sizes joined to a single stem – the symbol of Canada. At the top is the inscription CANADA, and at the bottom – the silver purity FINE SILVER 1 1/2 OZ ARGENT PUR and the year of issue 2016. The design is by Stan Witten.
