Obverse: The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of King Charles III, designed by Dan Thorne. Along the upper rim are the inscriptions “CHARLES III” and “AUSTRALIA”, indicating the monarch’s name and the issuing country. The lower part displays the fine silver weight and fineness “1 oz 9999 Ag” as well as the face value “1 DOLLAR”. The designer’s initials “DT” appear beneath the portrait.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin depicts three goats – an adult goat and two younger goats peacefully grazing in a natural setting. The composition is complemented by a rocky landscape and a flowering plum tree. The upper part features the Chinese character “羊”, representing the goat, and the inscription “GOAT 2027”. On the left is the “P” mintmark of Australia’s The Perth Mint, while the initials “NM” of designer Natasha Muhl appear in the lower part.
About the coin: This 2027 silver bullion coin belongs to The Perth Mint’s “Australian Lunar Series III”, dedicated to the animals of the Chinese lunar zodiac. The coin celebrates the Year of the Goat. The three goats depicted on the reverse symbolise the auspicious Chinese expression “Three Goats Bring Blessings”, associated with the end of winter, the beginning of spring, renewal and prosperity. The flowering plum symbolises purity, resilience and hope. In Chinese zodiac tradition, the goat is associated with gentleness, creativity, compassion and inner strength. Years of the Goat include 2027, 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979 and every twelfth preceding year.
The coin is struck from 999.9 fine silver and contains 1 troy ounce (approximately 31.1035 g) of pure silver. Its face value is 1 Australian dollar and its maximum diameter is 40.90 mm.
