Obverse: the obverse of the coin features the traditional image of a Greek discus thrower, inspired by the ancient sculptor Myron's work. Around it are engraved the inscriptions: LOS ANGELES XXIII OLYMPIAD EJ LIBERTY, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, as well as the year of issue 1983 and the letter S, indicating the San Francisco mint.
Reverse: the reverse shows the American symbol — the eagle. On the left is the Latin phrase that became America's motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM EJ.JM, and around it is the inscription of the country and the denomination UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ONE DOLLAR.
