Zodiac consists of 12 signs located in the elliptical circle that symbolizes Sun's orbit around the astronomical constellations. This principle applies not only to the Sun but also to our planet Earth, Moon and other planets of the Solar System. All astrological signs occupy 1/12 (30°) of the Zodiac's circle.
According to the ancient Greeks, each constellation that the sun passes through resembles different animals. They named this orbit zōdiakos kyklos "the circle of animals", or ta zōdia "little animals". Throughout centuries the amount signs varied and it became fixed only within the development of mathematical astronomy. The list below names the constellations of the zodiac and fixed dates when the sun passes through them.
