This polished goniatite fossil plate is an exceptional piece of natural history from Morocco, approximately 380 million years old. Goniatites were extinct cephalopod molluscs that inhabited Devonian seas. They belonged to the early ammonoids and were related to the later ammonites.
The round plate is composed of cross-sections of goniatite fossils of various sizes. Their spirally coiled shells were divided into separate chambers, whose structure and outlines are clearly revealed by the carefully polished surface. Honey-toned, brown, cream and dark grey hues, mineral inclusions and repeating spiral patterns create an expressive and unique composition.
The plate is ideal for complementing a palaeontology or mineral collection, decorating an interior or giving as a meaningful gift to someone interested in geology and natural history. Each specimen is one of a kind, so the size, arrangement and colours of the fossils, as well as their mineral inclusions, may vary. Natural veins, small cracks, cavities and surface irregularities are characteristics of the fossils and are not considered defects.
