Obverse: The centre of the obverse features Michelangelo’s famous drawing Cleopatra, held at the Casa Buonarroti Museum in Florence. This is a delicate pencil sketch made for his friend Tommaso dei Cavalieri and is considered one of the most intimate works by Michelangelo. The anniversary years 1475 and 2025 are engraved on either side of the figure, with the Rome Mint mark R above. The inscriptions MICHELANGELO and SAN MARINO appear along the left and right edges, respectively. The outer ring features twelve stars of the European Union.
Reverse: Standard design used for all €2 coins, with a map and denomination.
About the coin: This €2 commemorative coin marks the 550th anniversary of the birth of the great Renaissance master Michelangelo. It is bimetallic: the ring is made of CuNi25 alloy, and the centre is nickel-plated brass. Weight: 8.50 g; diameter: 25.75 mm. Issued in BU quality, 52,000 pieces were minted and released in a San Marino numismatic card. The edge is milled with an inscription. The national side was designed by Silvia Petrassi, and the common side by Luc Luycx.
