Her image is in a geometric composition, the elements of which are also created in her scientific writings. "RI" is an abbreviation of the Italian Republic and the author of "LDS" are the initials of Luciana De Simoni. The letter "R" minted on the left is the identification of the Roman Mint. At the top and bottom of the coin are depicted the year of Montessori’s birth and the year the coin was issued. The outer ring depicts the twelve stars of the European Union.

The Montessori method is the best method of educating children, which she has named after herself. She is also known as a fighter for gender equality.
