Obverse (English): The obverse design depicts the Sower, a national symbol of French numismatics, this time portrayed practicing pugilism, the forerunner of boxing, in reference to the Ancient Olympic Games. Her silhouette is shown in the foreground against the Pont Neuf and the surroundings of Île de la Cité, a key element of the Parisian landscape. In the background, an athletics track is represented, with the official Paris 2024 emblem placed on the right-hand side. At the bottom of the coin, on the bridge railing and in the Seine, appear the year 2023, the inscription RF and the mintmarks. The outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union flag.
Reverse (English): The reverse of the coin is the standard design for all 2 euro coins: a geographical map of Western Europe, positioned on the right side of the coin and spanning both the inner core and the outer ring. The inscription 2 EURO is placed across the map, with the numeral 2 set against the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring contains 12 stars arranged around the map, while vertical lines visually connect the upper and lower stars.
About the coin (English): This 2 euro commemorative coin of France was issued in 2023 to celebrate the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games. It is the second coin in the Olympic-themed series. The design was created by renowned French engraver Joaquin Jimenez. The coin was struck in BU quality, officially intended for collectors, and released both in individual packaging and in sets. It combines French numismatic tradition, historical ties to the roots of the Ancient Olympics, and the modern identity of Paris.
