Name:
1993 Croatia BU Kuna Coin Set
Coin type:
BU (Brilliant Uncirculated)
Mint:
The Croatian National Bank
Country of origin:
Croatia
About the set: in order to promote the Republic of Croatia and its monetary unit, the National Bank of Croatia issued a set of circulation coins with inscriptions in four languages: Croatian, German, English and Italian. The English cover features an article about the Republic of Croatia and the main features of the coins, accompanied by photographs of the cities, important monuments and natural beauties of the Republic of Croatia. The Croatian kuna (kroat: hrvatska kuna) is the monetary unit of Croatia. The Croatian kuna means pig. The hundredth part of the kuna is the lipa (Croatian: lipa).
Coins with denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 lipa and 1, 2 and 5 kuna are issued. These coins are made of different metals and alloys, and also differ in the diameter and thickness of the plate, with the plain edges on the Lipa coins and the milled edges on the Kunas. Their weight also varies, so that only the 5, 10, 20 and 50-lip coins are magnetic. A tolerance of 0,05 mm in diameter and thickness and up to 3 % in weight of the plate is allowed. The visual design of the coins issued in the Republic of Croatia is by the academic sculptor Kuzma Kovačič.
It is the first set of Croatian kuna issued in 1994. The country will adopt the euro in 2023, so this is one of the last chances to buy a Croatian kuna set!
