Obverse: The centre of the coin features the greater coat of arms of the Republic of Estonia – three lions on a shield surrounded by stylised oak branches. The inscription “EESTI VABARIIK” appears on the left, while the year of issue “2016” is highlighted in blue on the right.
Reverse: A stylised portrait of Estonian statesman and diplomat Jaan Poska is depicted. The composition incorporates the colours of the Estonian flag – blue, black and white. The outline of the portrait also symbolises Estonia’s national border, which the delegation led by Jaan Poska negotiated during the peace talks. The inscription “JAAN POSKA” appears on the right, with the denomination “10 €” below.
About the coin: In 2016, the Bank of Estonia issued this collectible silver coin to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Jaan Poska. Jaan Poska (1866–1920) was one of the most important figures in the establishment of Estonian statehood, as well as a lawyer and diplomat. He led the Estonian delegation in negotiations with Soviet Russia, which culminated in the signing of the Treaty of Tartu in 1920 and Russia’s recognition of Estonia’s independence.
The coin was designed by Mall Nukke and struck by the Lithuanian Mint. It is made of .925 silver, weighs 28.28 g, has a diameter of 38.61 mm and a Proof finish. The face value is 10 euros, and the mintage is 4,000 pieces.
