Obverse: The centre of the coin features the greater coat of arms of the Republic of Estonia – three lions on a shield surrounded by stylised oak branches. The inscription “EESTI VABARIIK” appears around the design, with the year of issue “2008” below.
Reverse: A stylised section of the structure of Beijing’s Olympic Stadium, also known as the “Bird’s Nest”, is depicted. The composition incorporates the coloured emblem of the Estonian Olympic Committee with the Olympic rings and flame, together with the inscription “ESTONIA”. The denomination “10 KROONI” appears at the bottom.
About the coin: In 2008, the Bank of Estonia issued this collectible silver coin to commemorate the XXIX Summer Olympic Games in Beijing and the participation of Estonian athletes in the Olympic Games. It was the fifth Estonian collector coin dedicated to the Olympic Games. The design was created by Estonian sculptor and artist Tiiu Kirsipuu, and the coin was struck by the Mint of Finland.
The coin is struck from .999 fine silver, weighs 28.28 g and has a diameter of 38.61 mm. It has a plain edge and a Proof finish. The face value is 10 Estonian krooni, and the maximum mintage is only 10,000 pieces.
