Obverse: The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of King Charles III designed by Dan Thorne. The inscriptions “CHARLES III” and “AUSTRALIA” appear along the edge of the coin. The lower section indicates the pure silver weight and fineness “5 oz 9999 Ag”, as well as the face value “8 DOLLARS”.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin depicts three goats grazing peacefully – an adult goat, a young goat and a kid. The composition is complemented by a flowering plum tree, symbolising purity, resilience and hope. The upper section features the Chinese character for goat, “羊”, together with the inscription “GOAT 2027”. The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark is also visible on the reverse. The composition reflects the auspicious Chinese expression “Three Goats Bring Blessings”, associated with the end of winter, the beginning of spring, renewal and a prosperous new beginning. The reverse was designed by Natasha Muhl.
About the coin: This 2027 silver bullion coin is part of The Perth Mint’s “Australian Lunar Series III”, dedicated to the zodiac animals of the Chinese lunar calendar. The coin celebrates the Year of the Goat. In Chinese zodiac tradition, the goat is associated with gentleness, creativity, compassion, calmness and inner strength. Years associated with the Goat include 2027, 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979 and every twelfth preceding year.
The coin is struck from 999.9 fine silver and contains 5 troy ounces (155.5175 g) of pure silver. Its face value is 8 Australian dollars and its diameter is 60.60 mm. The coin is a bullion issue and its mintage is unlimited.
The reverse incorporates a security feature in the form of a micro-engraved letter that can be viewed with a magnifying glass. The coin is presented in a protective acrylic capsule and can complement both an investment silver portfolio and a collection of “Lunar” series coins.
