Reverse: the coin depicts a koala holding on to a branch of a tree. The design of the coin also includes the inscription Australian Koala, the traditional mintmark of the Perth Mint, marked 2022, as well as the weight of pure silver 1 oz and fineness .9999.
Obverse: the obverse of the coin depicts Queen Elizabeth II adorned with a necklace (Australia has a constitutional monarchy under which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is also the Queen of Australia). The words ELIZABETH II and the name of the country AUSTRALIA are engraved around the image of the Queen, with the denomination 1 DOLLAR inscribed at the bottom. Below the image of the queen are the designer initials JC (Jody Clark). The letter “P” is engraved on the left side in the middle, which is the mark of The Perth Mint in Australia.
About the coin: since 2007 The Perth Mint has introduced the Silver Koala coin series. Coins with a different image of this animal on the reverse of the coin are issued each year. A new painting by Queen Elizabeth II Jody Clark is on display this year. When early Europeans first encountered a koala in Australia, they thought the animals that climbed the trees were monkeys or bears. Koalas have special physical properties that facilitate their way of life in the trees. They are able to grab the branches and pick out the eucalyptus leaves, the hard skin and sharp paws provide traction when climbing the branches. They have extra dense and thick fur to sit comfortably on the branches for hours upon hours. These unique Australian animals are a great icon representing the Australian fauna in the coin series.
