Obverse: The obverse of the coin features Anubis – half man, half jackal, the Egyptian god of the underworld. Beside him are the “Scales of Justice,” used in the “weighing of the heart” ceremony. In this ritual, the heart of the deceased was weighed against a feather: if lighter, the soul entered the afterlife; if heavier, it was devoured by a crocodile and the deceased was condemned to the lake of fire. Also included on the obverse are a mummified falcon, a jar of embalming fluid, and a skull – all symbols reinforcing Anubis’ connection with the afterlife.
Reverse: The reverse depicts a pyramid reminiscent of the Giza complex near Cairo. Above it is a winged sun disc flanked by two uraeus serpents, with a jackal sitting on top. The field includes hieroglyphs spelling out the name Anubis, along with traditional Egyptian lotus flowers. Around the edge are the coin’s technical details: weight 2 OZ, purity .999, and the chemical symbol for silver Ag.
About the coin: The 2 oz (62.2 g) silver Anubis coin is the second release in the Egyptian Gods series, following Cleopatra. It was struck in 2016 by Elemetal Mint using Ultra High Relief minting, which gives the design remarkable depth and lifelike quality. Made of .999 fine silver, the coin had a limited mintage of just 16,142 pieces. Anubis, depicted with the head of a black jackal, was the ancient Egyptian protector of tombs and the dead, making this coin not only a silver investment but also a cultural piece evoking the spirit of Egyptian mythology.
