About the coin: this silver dollar was issued in 1994 to commemorate the FIFA World Cup hosted in the United States. Designed by Dean McMullen and T. James Farrell. Proof coins were minted at San Francisco (S) and uncirculated coins at Denver (D). The maximum authorized mintage was 5 million, but the actual figures were lower: 577,090 proof and 81,524 uncirculated coins. Coins were offered individually and in various multi-coin sets, including a special edition. It was the first time the U.S. Mint used a common reverse design across commemorative coins of different denominations. Composition – 90% silver and 10% copper, actual silver weight 24.05 g, total weight 26.73 g, diameter 38.1 mm, reeded edge.
