About the coin: this silver dollar was issued in 1990 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s birth. The obverse was designed by John M. Mercanti and the reverse by Marcel Jovine. Proof coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint (P) and uncirculated coins at the West Point Mint (W). The maximum authorized mintage was 4 million, but final sales reached about 1.39 million coins. Coins were sold individually, with the proof version also included in the 1990 Prestige Proof Set. A portion of the surcharge from sales was directed to reduce the public debt. Composition – 90% silver and 10% copper, actual silver weight 24.05 g, total weight 26.73 g, diameter 38.1 mm, reeded edge.
