Obverse: The obverse features a right-facing bust of King Harald V of Norway (1991–present). Behind the bust are the initials of engraver Ingrid Austlid Rise (IAR). At the bottom appear the mintmark (⚒), the year of issue 1993, and the mintmaster’s initial K. Around the portrait is the inscription HARALD V · NORGES KONGE (“Harald V, King of Norway”). The rim is encircled by a solid ring.
Reverse: The reverse depicts the famous Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen, facing left, carrying skis on his shoulder. Beside him is a tent with the Norwegian flag. Behind the bust are the initials of designer Tomasz Boncza-Ozdowski (TBO). At the top is the Olympic symbol, and around the design is the inscription 1500 KRONER · LILLEHAMMER 1994.
