Obverse: the coin features a stylised representation of the Earth's fertility symbolism. A semicircle in the centre of the coin refers to the underground sphere. The seed, just above, is ready to germinate and grow. Above, a bunch of grapes, an olive branch. The top of the coin is inscribed 'NUTRIRE IL PIANETA'. The initials 'MGU' on the left of the coin are those of the designer, Maria Grazia Urbani, and 'RI' on the right of the coin denotes the Republic of Italy and 'R' denotes the mint of Rome. The year of minting 2015 and the word 'EXPO' are combined in a stylised way at the bottom of the coin. The bottom of the coin bears 'Milano 2015'. The outer ring of the coin bears the 12 stars of the European Union.
