The French light cavalry sword, model 1822, was created as standard weaponry for the French army's cavalry, especially for light cavalrymen who performed swift and agile combat actions. This sword was used by these cavalrymen in European conflicts and overseas (in Crimea, Mexico, North Africa) for nearly 150 years.
The curved blade was chosen for its effectiveness in both thrusting and cutting. The three crossbars on the handle, formed from a single piece, provided additional strength. The handle is wrapped with rope and leather. The scabbard is made of steel.
This is a historic weapon that holds not only military but also cultural significance, particularly due to its elegant design and important role in the history of the French cavalry.
