Obverse: The centre of the coin depicts Pope Francis, seen from behind, ceremonially opening the Holy Door of St Peter's Basilica. On the right, the inscription IVBILAEVM and the year 2025 appear vertically. The R mint mark of the Rome Mint is visible on the Holy Door, while the marks of designer Daniela Longo and engraver Monica Ciucci appear at the bottom. The inscription CITTÀ DEL VATICANO runs along the lower edge. The outer ring of the coin features the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse: The reverse features the standard design common to all €2 coins: a geographical map of Western Europe positioned on the right side of the coin and extending across both the inner and outer parts. The inscription 2 EURO appears above the map, while the numeral 2 is placed against the background of the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring contains 12 stars positioned on either side of the map, with vertical lines visually connecting the upper and lower stars.

Pope Francis officially opened the 2025 Jubilee on 24 December 2024, Christmas Eve, by opening the Holy Door of St Peter's Basilica. This symbolic moment is depicted on the coin. The opening of the Holy Door marks the beginning of the Jubilee and symbolises faith, hope, forgiveness and reconciliation. The coin was designed by Daniela Longo and engraved by Monica Ciucci. The official Vatican BU issue has a mintage of 75,000 coins.
