Obverse: The set consists of eight 2004 Finnish euro coins ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros. The 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent coins feature the heraldic lion of Finland. The 1 euro coin depicts two swans flying over the Finnish landscape, while the 2 euro coin features cloudberry flowers and berries. The coins also bear the year of minting 2004 and the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse: The reverse of the coins features the common European Union design used at the time for each respective euro denomination. The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins depict Europe in relation to the world, the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins feature a map of the European Union member states, while the 1 and 2 euro coins show a map of Europe. The designs also feature 12 stars symbolising the European Union.
About the coins: The official 2004 Finland Rahasarja I euro coin set was issued in BU quality and is presented in special thematic packaging by the Mint of Finland. In addition to the eight euro coins, the set contains a special copper-nickel medal dedicated to the historic enlargement of the European Union in 2004. On 1 May 2004, ten new countries joined the European Union – Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Malta and Cyprus. This enlargement is also illustrated on the map of Europe inside the set packaging. The medal features a map of Europe, a column, the year 2004 and the names of the new EU member states, while its other side features symbols of the Mint of Finland. The set is particularly notable for directly commemorating Lithuania joining the European Union.
