Obverse: The obverse of the coin features the Coat of Arms of Portugal, as well as the coats of arms of Argentina, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, and Portugal. The inscription REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA (Portuguese Republic) and the denomination 10 EURO are also depicted.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin shows a sailing ship and a sextant. The inscription NÁUTICA (Nautical in English), the year of issue 2003, and the mint INCM are engraved. The reverse was engraved by R. de Sousa Machado.
