About the coin: On July 27, 1866, a new era of global communication began when the ship "Great Eastern" arrived at Heart's Content, Newfoundland, to complete the connection that would allow for the rapid transmission of messages between the Old World and the New World. This silver 1-dollar coin was issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the transatlantic telegraph cable, which revolutionized communications and turned Newfoundland into an international communications hub.
