Reverse: The reverse depicts a portrait of Pope John Paul II. Around the portrait is the inscription “jan • paweł • ii”. The reverse was also designed by stanisława wątróbska-frindt.
About the coin: The 1000 zlotys silver coin, issued in 1982–1983, commemorates Pope John Paul II, the first pope of Polish origin. The coin is struck in .625 fine silver, with a total weight of 14.5 g and a diameter of 31 mm. The pure silver content of the coin is approximately 9.06 g. It is a circulating commemorative coin from the period of the Polish People’s Republic and remained legal tender until 1995.
