Obverse: the centre features the face value EURO 10, surrounded by oak and laurel branches symbolically evoking the euro sign. The composition is framed by geometric lines representing the hexagonal shape of France. To the right is the year 2019, and above appears the inscription RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE.
Reverse: an historical depiction of the gold coin from the reign of Philippe le Bel is recreated – the king is shown in a majestic posture, surrounded by Gothic-style ornaments and inscriptions. This XIII-century numismatic imagery is revived in a modern silver collector coin.
About the coin: this piece belongs to the Pièce d'Histoire series, in which Monnaie de Paris showcases France’s numismatic heritage from Roman times to the present. The 2019 ten-euro coin is struck in billon alloy containing 33.3% silver, giving it roughly 5.66 g of pure silver. The series revives historic French coinage, including Templar-era motifs of significant cultural importance.
