Reverse: the reverse depicts Columbus’ ship. At the top is the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Slightly below, on the right, are the denomination ONE DOLLAR and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM (Out of many, one). This phrase is one of the official mottos of the United States, signifying that from many states (or people) comes one nation. At the bottom are the years 1492–1992.
