Obverse: the obverse of the coin depicts the Greek Goddess of the victory Nike (The Angel of Freedom) in her right hand hold laurel crown who symbolizes victory, in the left hand are broken chains that symbolize freedom. On the left side of the coin is minted the coin nominal "50 PESOS" and the year "1821" marked the date of Mexican independence from Spain. On the right side of the coin is "37.5 ORO PURO", which means pure gold grams per coin, and the words "ORO PURO" are converted to "pure gold". In the bottom is minted coin issue date.
Reverse: the reverse depicts the Mexican coat of arms - Eagle on a cactus and in snape keeping the snake. The inscription "ESTADOS UNIDO MEXICANOS" (eng. United States of Mexico) is displayed around the coat of arms.
Edge: minted words "Independencia y libertad" (eng. Independence and freedom).
