Obverse: the obverse of the coin depicts the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph. He remains the third-longest reigning European monarch in the history of the continent. He was the Emperor of the Austrian Empire from 1848 until its merge with the Kingdom of Hungary, at which point he held dual titles as the Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. On the top of the obverse, we can see the words "FRANC.JOS.I.D.G.IMP.AVSTR.REX BOH.GAL.ILL.ETC.ET AP.REX HVNG" and the engraver initials "S.T." (Stefan Schwartz).
Reverse: the reverse of the coin depicts the coat of arms of Austria - Hungary. The double-headed, crowned eagle is based on the coat of arms for the Hapsburg Dynasty, the founding family of the Austrian Empire. Eagle holds a sword, as a symbol of struggle and a globe, which symbolizes the goal to rule the whole world. The words "C CORONÆ MDCCCCXV" appear at the top of the semicircle, and "20 COR." and year of minting "1915".
About the Coin: in 1892, the Austrian Mint first forged gold corona coins when Franz Joseph I introduced a currency reform. The first coins were worth 10 and 20 corona. The original Austrian "20 corona" gold coins were produced from 1909 to 1916.
