Obverse: The obverse of the coin features the image of Queen Elizabeth II (Canada has a constitutional monarchy under which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is also the monarch of Canada). On the left side is the Winter Olympics logo. The denomination "50 DOLLARS", the name of the country "CANADA" and "ELIZABETH II" are engraved on the coin in a semicircle, and the year of minting the coin is "2010" at the bottom.
Reverse: The coin's reverse depicts a hockey player between two maple leaves. The year is embossed at the top with the words "VANCOUVER WHISTLER" in between, and the bottom of the coin is embossed with "9999 FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR".
