Obverse: the obverse of the coin depicts a bust of the King. It is surrounded by the inscription “CARL XVI GUSTAF SVERIGES KONUNG ”(CARL XVI Gustaf King of Sweden).
Reverse: the reverse of the coin depicts the 1st bust of Queen Margaret of Denmark. The left side of the reverse shows a shield with three crowns. “MARGARETA KALMAR UNIONEN 1397” at the top and denomination “1000 KR” at the bottom.
About the coin: the coin was issued to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the Kalmar Union. 1397 Queen Margarita of Denmark united Denmark, Sweden and Norway into the so-called Kalmar Union. These countries, ruled by the King of Denmark, sacrificed their independence but retained self-government.
