Obverse: The obverse of the coin depicts the statue of American "Lady Liberty" holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. At the bottom of the coin, in the background, is the Capitol building. Also engraved on this side of the coin is the mintage year "MCMLXXXVI" (1986).
Reverse: The reverse of the coin depicts the symbol of America - an eagle flying over a nest, holding an olive branch in its leg. The reverse also features an eagle family perched in a nest. The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" are engraved on the top of the coin. On the left side of the coin are engraved the Latin words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (from Latin - One of many). The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" is engraved on the right side of the coin. The coin's weight, metal and denomination "1 OZ. FINE GOLD 50 DOLLARS" are engraved in a semicircle on the bottom of the coin. Also engraved on the reverse are the small letters "MB", representing the initials of the coin's designer (Miley Busiek).
