Obverse: The obverse features the coat of arms of the Lithuanian state, surrounded by the inscription “LIETUVA” and the denomination “50 LITŲ” in a semicircle, with the year of issue “2001” above the knight. Below the knight are depicted J. Basanavičius' key achievements – the first Lithuanian newspaper Auszra, the Lithuanian Scientific Society, and the Act of Independence of Lithuania.
Reverse: The reverse shows a portrait of J. Basanavičius. To the left, his signature and the years “1851–1927” are engraved.
About the coin: This coin was issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Jonas Basanavičius' birth.
