Obverse: The set consists of nine 2006 German euro coins – eight regular circulation coins ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros and a commemorative €2 coin. The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins depict an oak twig, the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins feature the Brandenburg Gate, while the €1 and €2 coins depict the German federal eagle. The additional commemorative €2 coin features the Holstentor, one of the best-known architectural landmarks of Lübeck. The inscription SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN appears below the building, while the outer ring contains the 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse: The reverse of the coins features the common European design used at the time for each euro denomination. The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins depict Europe in relation to the world, while the 10, 20 and 50 cent and €1 and €2 coins feature the geographical motifs of the first common euro coin series, depicting the European Union member states of the time. The designs also incorporate the 12 stars symbolising the European Union.
About the coins: The 2006 German euro coin set contains all eight standard euro denominations together with an additional commemorative €2 coin dedicated to the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein. This commemorative coin launched Germany's Bundesländer series, dedicated to the country's federal states and their most notable architectural landmarks. It depicts Lübeck's Holstentor, built in the 15th century and recalling the city's history as one of the most important trading centres of the Hanseatic League. Lübeck's Old Town has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1987. The set is presented in special BU packaging that also provides the denomination, metal, weight, diameter and thickness of the coins.
