Obverse: The centre of the coin depicts a football player controlling the ball, surrounded by laurel branches symbolising sporting achievement and victory. Beside the figure appears the inscription MAJSTRI EURÓPY 1976, commemorating Czechoslovakia's historic triumph at the 1976 UEFA European Football Championship. At the bottom is the inscription SLOVENSKO 2026, indicating the issuing country and the year of issue. The design honours one of the most significant moments in Slovak sporting heritage.
Reverse: The reverse features the standard design common to all €2 coins: a geographical map of Western Europe positioned on the right side of the coin and extending across both the inner and outer parts. The inscription 2 EURO appears above the map, while the numeral 2 is placed against the background of the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring contains 12 stars positioned on either side of the map, with vertical lines visually connecting the upper and lower stars.
About the coin: This commemorative €2 coin honours the winners of the 1976 UEFA European Football Championship. In the final, Czechoslovakia defeated West Germany in a penalty shoot-out. The decisive penalty was taken by Antonín Panenka, whose delicate chip into the centre of the goal became one of football's most iconic moments and gave rise to the famous Panenka penalty. As many Slovak players were members of the Czechoslovak national team, the victory is regarded as an important part of Slovakia's sporting history.
