Obverse: the obverse of the coin depicts stylized figures of men and women and the information networks surrounding them as a stripe symbolize the open exchange of information. The words "JOURNALISM • JOURNALISTIK" are engraved on the edges of the coin, including the mark of the Finnish National Mint, the year of mintage "2021" and the letters "FI" for the first two letters of the country's name ("Finland"). The outer ring of the coin features 12 stars of the European Union.
Reverse: the regular image of the 2 euro denomination for the geographical background of the contours of the European continent.
About the coin: the coin was issued to commemorate the support of Journalism and the Free Press and its significance for Finnish democracy. The Finnish Union of Journalists, with other unions of people working in the journalism profession, was founded in 1921. The Union's main task is to protect journalism and its rules of ethics and to promote freedom of expression, as the right to truthful information is an important element of freedom of expression.
