Obverse: the coin features a part of the Cuban coat of arms in the centre of the obverse, the hat of Liberty Phrygian with a star. The country of origin 'REPUBLICA DE CUBA' (Republic of Cuba) is embossed on the top and 'PATRIA Y LIBERTAD' (Homeland and Liberty) on the bottom. The weight of the coin is shown on the left-hand side as '6.25 G.' and the denomination on the right as '25 cts.'.
Reverse: the centre of the reverse shows a portrait of the Cuban national hero José Martí with a five-pointed star next to his face. Around the image is the inscription '1853 - CENTENARIO DE MARTI - 1953'.
