Obverse: 2026 Slovakia Trenčín - European Capital of Culture 2 euro coin. The centre of the coin depicts a stylised silhouette of Trenčín Castle symbolising the city’s historical heritage. At the bottom are cultural symbols – an artist’s palette with a brush, a film camera and a theatre mask – highlighting the city’s role as a European Capital of Culture. The inscription SLOVENSKO appears in a semicircle at the top, the year 2026 is shown on the right, and on the left are the mark of the Kremnica Mint and the designer’s initials. The inscription EUROPSKÉ HLAVNÉ MESTO KULTÚRY is placed in a semicircle at the bottom, with the name TRENČÍN in the centre.
Reverse: On the reverse of the coin – the common design characteristic of all 2 euro coins: a geographical map of Western Europe positioned on the right side of the coin and covering both the inner and outer parts. The inscription 2 EURO is placed at the top of the map, while the number 2 is shown against the background of the Atlantic Ocean. In the outer ring there are 12 stars arranged on both sides of the map, and vertical lines visually connect the upper and lower stars.

Trenčín is one of the oldest cities in Slovakia, known for its impressive medieval castle, the Roman inscription on the rock beneath the castle and its vibrant cultural life. The title of European Capital of Culture gives the city an opportunity to present its historical heritage, art and creative initiatives on a European scale. The coin emphasises the importance of culture in strengthening cooperation and mutual understanding among the nations of Europe.
