Obverse: The obverse of the coin depicts King Wilhelm Alexander of the Netherlands. Next to his portrait, the coin's year of issue "2023", the name "Willhelm-Alexander" and the inscription "Koning der Nederlanden" are engraved.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin shows the denomination and the map of Europe.
About the coin: To commemorate the opening of Tutankhamun's tomb, the Royal Netherlands Mint is issuing a special edition: a coin card with a €1 coin. This is the first time a €1 coin has been inserted into a coin card. This is a reference to the fact that the tomb was opened 100 years ago. The coin is placed in a matching coin card that really evokes the atmosphere of ancient Egypt. Surrounding the coin is the outline of Tutankhamun's well-known face mask on the coin card. In the background you can find Egyptian hieroglyphs.
