About the coin: Hill of Crosses, a place where the construction and overall placement of the crosses began in 1863 to honor the people who died in the uprising of that year. After suppressing the uprising, the tsarist government banned the construction of crosses, and the people whose homesteads had any kind of cross in their yard were brutally punished and crosses demolished and destroyed. Prayers of Lithuania disobeyed the orders of cross banishment and chose a more remote place, the present Mount of Crosses. Even today, the Hill of Crosses is a sign of the strength of faith that overcomes all obstacles. Also, on the Hill of Crosses, you can find historical, wooden, metal, cast crosses from various regions and environs of Lithuania, thus creating a very unique place with its history. Cross-work and cross-mint traditions in Lithuania are included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
