About the coin: A silver 2 New Sheqalim commemorative coin from the Biblical Art series, issued in 1999 (5759 according to the Hebrew calendar), commemorates Abraham – the first patriarch of the Jewish people, who introduced the belief in one God to the world. God promised him not only a son but also countless descendants who would become a great and mighty nation. The minimalist design captures the sacred and exalted moment of this divine promise – Abraham gazing toward the sky, the stars symbolizing his future nation. Designed by Eitan Alon (obverse) and Ed van Ivan (reverse), the coin was minted at the Royal Canadian Mint. Silver (.925), 28.8 g, 38.7 mm.
