Obverse: The obverse features the official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark. Around the portrait are inscriptions indicating the monarch’s name, denomination, and issuing country.
Reverse: The reverse shows the mythical griffin – part eagle, part lion – clutching the shield of the House of Windsor against a chain mail background. The griffin is a heraldic symbol of Edward III. The design is by Jody Clark, whose initials JC appear below the shield. The inscription reads GRIFFIN OF EDWARD III 10oz · FINE SILVER · 999.9 · 2018.
About the coin: This is the second 10-ounce investment coin in the Queen’s Beasts silver bullion series, issued by the Royal Mint in 2018. Struck in ultra-fine 999.9 silver, it has legal tender status in the UK and is exempt from capital gains tax. The coin is presented in a protective capsule. The Queen’s Beasts series was inspired by the 1953 coronation ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II, during which ten heraldic beasts, sculpted by James Woodford, represented her lineage and royal heritage.
