Obverse and reverse: the images of the obverse and reverse of the coin have been destroyed by rolling machines, but the outlines of the former coin can be seen. The obverse features a bust of President Antanas Smetona, the reverse of the Pillars of Gediminas. Edge: the edge of the coin is intact, with the inscription 'THE FORCE OF THE PEOPLE * IN UNITY *' visible.
About the coin: this is an extremely rare commemorative coin, which was destroyed when the Soviet Union occupied Lithuania and banned the litas currency on 25 March 1941. The occupation authorities ordered the destruction of the litas currency on 25th of May 1941. Paper money was burned and coins were destroyed. Money, in addition to its basic functions, represents the nation, its statehood, its level of culture, and this was the reason why the occupiers destroyed the litas.
