Obverse: depicts His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. The portrait of the Pope is surrounded by a semicircle inscribed with 'Citta Del Vaticano' and the year of minting.
Reverse: the usual denomination numbers of euro coins.
About the gold coin: the obverse depicts Pope Benedict XVI. The words 'BENEDICTUS XVI P.M.' are engraved on the left and the date 'ANNO VII - MMXII' is on the right. The reverse of the coin depicts St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. The image of the building separates the year in Roman numerals 'MMII' and 'MMXII' and the denomination '50 EURO'. The names of the euro-area countries for 2012 are embossed at the top.
About the coin set: this is a Vatican euro coin set with a commemorative 50 euro gold coin to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the euro. This set is an extremely rare collector's item (mintage of only 2000 pieces).
