Obverse: The obverse shows stylized lines with the twelve stars of the European Union. Vertically inscribed is the country’s name in Belgium’s three national languages – BELGIE – BELGIQUE – BELGIEN. Above the face value 10 EURO appears the mintmark of European issues.
Reverse: On the reverse, to the right, is the mythological abduction of Europa by Zeus in the form of a bull, and to the left, a map of the European Union with 25 member states. The inscription AMPLATA UNIO EUROPAEA and the year 2004 are engraved.
About the coin: Issued in Belgium in 2004 to commemorate the expansion of the European Union, when ten new countries joined. Part of the “Europa Star” series. Struck in .925 silver, it weighs 18.75 g and measures 33 mm in diameter. Engraver – Luc Luycx.
