Obverse: Depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of Lithuania on a shield. In the center, on an open book, are fragments from the town of Varni, the center of the Samogitian Diocese. The inscription "LIETUVA" is at the top, and "2001" and "50 LITAI" are at the bottom.
Reverse: Depicts a portrait of Motiejus Valančius. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions: "1801," "MOTIEJUS VALANČIUS," and "1875."
About the Coin: This silver coin was issued to mark the 200th anniversary of Motiejus Valančius's birth.
Edge of the Coin: The edge features the inscription "LITHUANIAN WORD, SCRIPT, AND FAITH — THE LIFE OF THE NATION."
