Obverse: depicts the eagle, the symbol of Germany, and 12 stars representing Europe. The top part of the coin shows the name of the country of origin 'BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND' and the bottom part shows the denomination '50 EURO', the mintmark 'D' and the year of issue '2017'.
Reverse: the reverse of the gold coin shows the Luther Rose (Martin Luther's seal) with the inscription around '- L - U - T - H - E - R - R - O - S - E -'.
About the coin: this coin commemorates the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The Reformation began in 1517 when Martin Luther published his 95 theses in Wittenberg and nailed them to the church door.
